Although they must continue using the Hawthorn Bank Community Room for worship services and meetings, members of Community Christian Church will rededicate the church's columbarium Nov. 3.

The May 22 tornado that hit eastern Jefferson City heavily damaged the church and its columbarium (a structure that houses urns containing church members' remains).

The storm displaced the building's capstone and shifted brick walls supporting it.

Freeman Mortuary removed and safely stored remains held within the columbarium while crews repaired it.

Although columbarium repairs are complete, crews continue work on the church, which was insured, according to a news release.

Church members and friends will hold a ceremony 2 p.m. Nov. 3 near the back of the property at 409 Ellis Blvd. to rededicate the columbarium.
