A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to four years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in two separate cases.

George Biggs, 49, pleaded guilty during a Monday hearing before Cole County Senior Judge Richard Callahan to third-degree assault and first-degree harassment in connection with a domestic assault case in April.

He also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and stealing a firearm after fleeing from authorities in September.

Callahan ruled that Biggs' sentence in these cases will run concurrent with all other sentences against him.

The April assault occurred in the 1200 block of East Dunklin Street.

Officers were called after a woman had told Biggs twice to leave her home, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The woman had returned home after taking her children to school to find Biggs was still in her residence, and the two began to argue. The woman said Biggs had slapped her several times and dragged her around by her arms in the residence as well as spit in her face. She told officers Biggs had threatened to burn down the residence.

In September, officers spotted Biggs in the alleyway beside Save a Lot in the 300 block of Benton Street working on a bike, according to a JCPD probable cause statement.

Police learned Biggs was wanted in connection with a robbery investigation, and he failed to stop after officers ordered him to do so. Officers pursued Biggs for about a block as he attempted to flee on his bike. He then dropped the bike and began to run on foot, going behind houses on Benton Street.

He eventually fell down a retaining wall and was arrested.

As he ran, Biggs dropped a backpack; officers searched it and found a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen out of Callaway County. They also found methamphetamine, a scale and drug paraphernalia.
