Local Cub Scouts will test the speed of their pinewood derby cars next month during the 2019 Five Rivers District Pinewood Derby.

The derby will be March 2 at the Blair Oaks Middle School gym, 6123 Falcon Lane in Wardsville.

Registration begins at noon for Webelos. Their races begin at 1 p.m. Bears register at 1 p.m. with races beginning at 2 p.m. Registration for Wolf scouts is at 2 p.m. with races starting at 3 p.m. Tiger scouts register at 3 p.m. with races starting at 4 p.m. Lions register at 4 p.m. with races at 5 p.m.

District championship races are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. Award presentations will follow.

Only official BSA Pinewood Derby cars will be allowed in all classes. Official race rules are available online at bsa-grc.org.

Each participant may enter only one car. There is a $5 registration fee for each participant.

Concessions and activities, including camp information for scouts, face painting, bake-walk, balloon pop and more, will be available during the event.

Optimist Club of Jefferson City members will work with Scout volunteers to manage the races.
