A nurse at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center has been chosen as the January State Employee of the Month.

According to his supervisors, Kyle Pinkley is being recognized for his "excellent leadership with staff and clients that brings results of improvement in communication and treatment."

The registered nurse manager was nominated for the award by eight staff members at the health center where he has worked for the past 11 years.

Pinkley's supervisors said a staff member at the health center was splashed in the eyes with an unknown liquid during a recent incident and had no immediate area in which to rinse. Pinkley had an eyewash station installed, so if this occurs again, quick help for the staff is now available. His superiors said that was one example of how he is "solution-focused."

"Working side-by-side with his staff, Kyle sets the bar high and inspires everyone in his unit to do the same," according to the nomination letter for Pinkley. "His positive, encouraging attitude makes the staff want to strive for their own excellence and set an example for others. He makes his staff feel appreciated for showing up and working hard."
