Fitzwater seeking re-election to Ward 4 council seat

Ward 4 Councilman Ron Fitzwater announced Friday he will seek re-election for his Jefferson City Council seat in the April municipal election.

Fitzwater was originally elected in April 2017 to fill the last year of former Ward 4 Councilman Glen Costales' term after Costales resigned in November 2016. Fitzwater was then re-elected for a full two-year term in 2018. If re-elected, this will be his second full term.

Fitzwater hopes to continue the work the council has been doing to address critical issues he identified when he first ran, including public safety, economic development and city infrastructure.

"We have made great strides over the past three years, but there is still a lot of work to be done," Fitzwater said in a news release. "The background that I brought to the position and the experience that I have gained during my time on the council have enabled me to work to move these issues forward. I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of Jefferson City and Ward 4."

Fitzwater previously served on the Transportation and Traffic Commission before being elected to council and was an alternate member of the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Currently, Fitzwater serves on the Public Works and Planning Committee and is part of the Missouri State Penitentiary Community Partners. He has also been involved with the Cole County Republican Central Committee.

Outside of government, Fitzwater is the chief executive office for the Missouri Pharmacy Association.

Ward 3 Councilwoman Erin Wiseman and Ward 5 Councilman Jon Hensley will also seek re-election in April.

Current Ward 1 Councilman Rick Prather, along with Ward 2 Councilman Rick Mihalevich, will term out in April and their seats will be open.

City election filing for the April 7 ballot opens at 8 a.m. Dec. 17 and ends at 5 p.m. Jan. 21.
