Eugene student charged with inappropriate touching

A student at Eugene High School has been charged after a Tuesday incident on a school bus.

Caleb McBrearety, 18, is charged with fourth-degree child molestation.

The alleged incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement.

School officials reported inappropriate touching between McBrearety and a 12-year-old to deputies with the Cole County Sheriff's Department.

The 12-year-old told authorities she and McBrearety sit next to each other on the bus because of assigned seats. She claimed McBrearety would hug her and touch her inappropriately, even though she had told him to stop.

A witness told authorities he was tired of seeing McBrearety touching the girl inappropriately. The witness backed up the girl's claims that she had told McBrearety to stop touching her on numerous occasions.

When questioned, McBrearety reportedly said he had never touched the girl inappropriately, although he allegedly said he had tickled her and she told him to stop.

McBrearety was arrested and taken to the Cole County Jail. McBrearety's bond was set at $10,000, and he was not to have contact with the alleged victim, court documents show.
