HALO event aims to inspire women

HALO will host a women's conference this fall to nourish, beautify and feed the souls of Jefferson City area women.

HALO is a nonprofit organization that works to provide housing, education and healing to at-risk youth. They currently have a girls' home in Jefferson City and will launch a boys' program in the fall.

The idea for the INSPIRE conference came from HALO founder Rebecca Welsh, who has traveled across the country attending other women's conferences.

"I always feel motivated and excited when I leave these types of events, so when we started talking about doing a fundraiser in the fall for HALO, this was the first thing that came to my mind," Welsh said.

The conference is a one-day event, scheduled Sept. 14, that will feature keynote speakers Kim Becking and Christine McDonald in addition to Welsh. Both are motivational speakers and award-winning authors.

Along with the speakers, there will be five 15-minute sessions centered around promoting a healthy lifestyle mentally and physically. Sessions will involve improving memory, working on brain function, breathing through the day, healthy meal prepping, and creating a nourishing and calming space.

Ladonna Ellis, a gospel singer from St. Louis, will perform at the event.

"It's important for women to have somewhere to go to have their cups filled and be the best women that they can be," Welsh said.

General admission tickets cost $50, and VIP tickets cost $100. VIP members will get access to a meet-and-greet with the speakers, a reception and more. All proceeds will benefit HALO.

The conference will be at the Miller Performing Arts Center, 501 Madison St. in Jefferson City.
