Bootheel man charged with drug trafficking in Cole County

A man from the Missouri Bootheel has been charged with drug trafficking in Cole County.

Willie Duckworth, 36, of Hayti, is charged with second-degree drug trafficking, delivery of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and driving while revoked.

The incident occurred Wednesday night in the 2000 block of Missouri Boulevard, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Officers were initially dispatched for a disturbance in the 300 block of Crest Drive, where a resident said Duckworth was at her home and she wanted him to leave. As officers were responding, they were told Duckworth had left the residence.

Officers located Duckworth's vehicle going south in the 100 block of Dix Road. He had an active warrant for driving while revoked, and they stopped him in the parking lot of Walgreens on Missouri Boulevard.

As Duckworth got out of the vehicle, he ran around Walgreens and started to cross Missouri Boulevard, but he fell and was taken into custody.

As they walked Duckworth back to their vehicle, officers noticed a white, powdery rock substance falling from his shorts. It was collected and field tested positive for cocaine.

Walking the trail Duckworth had run, officers reportedly located multiple bags containing the same substance. All together, 81 grams of cocaine and 24 grams of heroin were found.

When questioned by authorities, Duckworth reportedly said he ran from officers because he had cocaine on him.
