Walsh wins District 50 seat

A rematch in Missouri House District 50 yielded the same result, as Missouri voters chose incumbent Sara Walsh, a Republican, over Democrat Michela Skelton.

In the District 50 race, Walsh received 11,709 votes, beating Skelton by 3,542 votes, according to results after all precincts reported.

Walsh won the vote in all four counties of the 50th District, which covers northern Moniteau and southern Boone counties, as well as northwestern Cole County and a part of southeastern Cooper County.

Walsh also defeated Skelton in a special election for the seat in August 2017, following a vacancy left by then Rep. Caleb Jones, who was named deputy chief of staff to then-Gov. Eric Greitens.

Results by county showed Walsh received 535 votes in Cole County or 75 percent of the vote.

In Moniteau County, 2,151 voters chose Walsh, or 73 percent. High numbers also came in from Boone County; 8,499 voted for Walsh, or 54 percent.

In Cooper County, she received 524 votes, or 72 percent of the vote.

Walsh received the news while attending a Republicans of Boone County watch party in Columbia.

"It's been an incredible honor this past year, and I look forward to continuing to do the good work and serve as their state representative," Walsh said. "We claimed victory for my race I'm incredibly honored and humbled to have strong support and be re-elected in the Missouri House."

Her opponent Skelton said she was glad she ran but had hoped this election would be different.

"Fear and division are a powerful drug, and they are hard to overcome," Skelton said Tuesday night. "I think we really laid a strong foundation for hope and positivity in our community, and I just hope that it continues to grow," she said.
