There were several spot fires from an unknown origin in the grass that stretched from the Route OO-AA overpass in Holts Summit to just north of the Missouri 179 overpass. Authorities are unsure what led to several small fires Wednesday along the median of U.S. 54 in Mid-Missouri.

Jefferson City Fire Department officials said they dealt with three such fires near the Ellis Boulevard exit, but the fires were reported as far away as Holts Summit.

Some Missouri Department of Transportation crews were called to assist in putting out the fires. Authorities said the fires led to no injuries or accidents.
