There's far more to Saturday's charitable 5K than just running.

The Miles Against Melanoma 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk Family Fun Event has local food vendors, free beer and a concert to close out the evening.

The annual event, this year at the Ellis-Porter Riverside Park amphitheater, gets underway at with registration at 3 p.m. Walkers start at 4 p.m.; runners take off at 5 p.m. And a Memorial Walk is slated for 7 p.m.

The Jet Jurgensmeyer concert will take the amphitheater stage at 7:20 p.m. There will also be face painting and a balloon artist, and local food vendors will be on site, including Rebel Tacos, RJ's Real Italian Ice, The Old Brick House Deli and Alibi Cookies.

The Jefferson City event, which in 2019 raised more than $21,000 thanks to over 400 participants, serves to increase awareness and funding to fight melanoma. The national Miles Against Melanoma organization formed in 2010 to provide the public with information on the damaging effects of the sun and tanning devices. Money raised through the 5K run/walk events goes toward education, advocacy and research for skin cancer, melanoma and related cancers. Locally, money will also toward community sunscreen dispensers.

Registration for Saturday's 5K costs $30 and includes a T-shirt and free beer, for those older than 21.
