Mid-Missouri gears up for packed Halloween weekend

Whether you crave the silly or the spooky, Mid-Missouri is gearing up for Halloween this weekend with plenty of sweet events for all ages.

FRIDAY

Fulton Cricket Wireless Grand Opening Trunk or Treat: Cricket Wireless, 1887 N. Bluff St. in Fulton, is hosting a Halloween-themed grand opening from 5-8 p.m. Children will receive a free bag of candy, and adults can enter a TV giveaway drawing. There will also be a costume contest, children's games and activities, and other deals.

Jeff City's Most Haunted History and Ghost Walking Tours: The Jefferson City Paranormal Society is offering haunted ghost tours through downtown Jefferson City this spooky season. Tours are at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Friday as well 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $10, and the 1.25-mile walking tour begins at 101 W. Capitol Ave.

Costume Contest and Ghost Night Ride: Meet at Barn House Harley-Davidson, 912 U.S. 54 West, between 5:30-6:30 p.m. to register for the costume contest before riding the back roads at 6:30 p.m. to J. Pfenny's Sports Grill & Pub for a Halloween party. Contest winners will receive a prize; it's free to enter.

Drive-thru Halloween Treat: Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 415 Lafayette St., is hosting a drive-thru event 6:30-7:30 p.m. for families to pick up treat bags in celebration of Halloween. Attendees are asked to start on Miller Street.

Howl-O-Ween Bash: Loving Paws Pet Service of Mid Mo is hosting a trunk or treat event for dogs and children. The Holts Summit business, located at 500 Hunter Lane, runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and is complete with temporary tattoos, a costume contest and pet photos.

Witches, Warlock and Wine Halloween Party: Serenity Valley Winery, 1888 County Road 324 in Fulton, is throwing a Halloween dance party with spooky drink specials and a costume contest. The party, featuring music from DJ JT, starts at 6:30 p.m.

Halloween Dance Mix Party: Don your costume and dancing shoes for a dance party from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at Capital Ritz Banquet and Dance Center, 2716 Plaza Drive. Those in costume will be entered to win prizes. It's $5 to attend and a variety of music will be played (including Halloween tunes) for ballroom, swing, country, line and pattern partner dancing. Beer, wine, soda and water will be available for purchase.

Specspookular: Spectators Sports Bar, 232 E. High St., is hosting a two-part Halloween party Friday and Saturday. First up, a costume party starts at 9 p.m. Friday; the evening featured music from DJ Ghoudy and drink specials all night. On Saturday, Chill Bone takes the stage at 9 p.m.

SATURDAY

The Haunted Hustle 5K: A family fun run, the Haunted Hustle will benefit The Sneaker Project, which provides shoes to under-privileged youth in Mid-Missouri. The third annual event gets underway with registration at 8 a.m. at the North Jefferson City Pavilion, 927 4th St. The 5K costs $25, and goodie bags will be given to all participants. No pets allowed.

Community Health Center Trunk or Treat: The Community Health Center of Central Missouri is hosting a trunk or treat from 11 a.m.-2 p.m at 1511 Christy Drive.

High Street Trick or Treat: Head to downtown Jefferson City in costume from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for a free trick or treat event, visiting High Street businesses.

Spooky Swim Family Pool Party: The Knowles YMCA indoor pool will be open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for a Halloween-themed pool party complete with music, candy dives, dunkin' pumpkins and a haunted hallway. The Y is located at 424 Stadium Blvd.

Costume Pawty: Dog training businesses Paw Finesse with Jess is hosting a costume "pawty" and fall festival 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the North Jefferson City Recreation Area fields, 927 4th St. Bring the whole family - dogs included - for a costume contest, trick-or-treating, food trucks, and fun and games. There will also be local vendors selling crafts and handmade goods. All sales will help raise funds for local animal rescue organizations.

Cork and Board Halloween Bash: Cork and Board, 124 E. High St., is throwing an all-day Halloween party complete with a costume contest, specialty drinks, and a late-night scary movie showing with Capitol City Cinema.

Halloween Walk the Vote: Sponsored by Building Community Bridges, Jefferson City NAACP, and the Jefferson City Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, voters and their families are invited to trick or treat and "walk the vote" to raise awareness and support for voting in upcoming elections. The free event runs 1-3 p.m. at Community Park, 725 Marshall St.

Parson Family Fall Festival and Trick-or-Treating: Gov. Mike Parson and first lady Teresa Parson invite Missourians to the People's House from 1-3 p.m. for an afternoon of fall fun. The outdoor event will feature trick-or-treating, vendors, children's activities and bluegrass music. Children are encouraged to dress in costume to receive a grab bag.

Haunting on Railroad Street: The Watershed, 9208 Railroad St., is hosting a Halloween party with trick-or-treating, goodie bags and activities for the entire family from 2-4 p.m. Then after dark, an adult party gets underway with a costume contest for the best overall and best couple/group costume.

Halloween at Last Flight: Last Flight Brewing Company, 738 Heisinger Road, is having a costume party from 1-9 p.m. along with trick-or-treating all day and caramel apples from 3-6 p.m. Trick-or-treating continues from 1-8 p.m. Sunday.

Harvest Fest: It's not a trunk or treat, but there will still be plenty of treats. Games, a bounce house, prizes, food and photo booth will be at Southridge Baptist Church, 1815 Vieth Drive, from 2-5 p.m.

Jefferson City Jaycees Trunk or Treat: Fun, games and goodies are back at the fairgrounds this year for the annual Jaycees trunk or treat. The free event runs from 2-5 p.m. at 1445 Fairgrounds Road. Proceeds benefit Operation T.O.Y.S., which allows children to go Christmas shopping with area law enforcement officers.

Scary Stories in the Woods: Join the Missouri Monster in its lair for some Halloween fun, starting at 3 p.m. at the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, 100 Jefferson St. Listen as Missouri State Museum staff read traditional American scary stories from Alvin Schwartz's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" as well as some Ozark-based stories and the tale of Missouri's own bigfoot-like creature, the Missouri Monster. The event will also feature Halloween-themed crafts and activities about Missouri's mysterious wildlife. The program is free and open to the public; children must be accompanied by an adult.

Capital Mall Happy Halloween Trunk or Treat: Local businesses will be at the mall, 3600 Country Club Drive, from 2-6 p.m. greeting trick-or-treaters with candy. The Host Lions Club will also be providing free eye screenings for children with parental consent. The event is present by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots.

Fright Night at the Finke: Finke Theatre, 315 N. High St. in California, is offering a night of treats and spooks. The event runs 4-6 p.m. and features a showing of "Hocus Pocus" followed by a Halloween costume contest. Tickets are $8 for adults $5 for children; a family pack of two adult and two child tickets goes for $20.

Halloween Deadlift Party: Capital Fitness is hosting a fitness-themed Halloween party, complete with a costume contest. The event begins at 5 p.m. at 905 Eastland Drive.

Fall Family Days: Landmark Church and Landmark Recovery Center, 204 Metro Drive, is hosting a two-day Halloween event. A trunk or treat is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Saturday, and a family fall festival begins at 10 a.m. Sunday with a puppet show. Sunday will also feature a chili bar, pumpkin decorating, caramel apple making, a pie-eating contest and games.

Holts Summit Police Department Trunk or Treat: The HSPD is hosting a free event from 6-8 p.m. at the station 245 S. Summit Drive in Holts Summit.

Trick or Treat on Oak Street: California businesses will provide a night of fun and candy along South Oak Street. The event runs 6-8 p.m. in California.

Halloween Costume Dance: Windstone Entertainment Event Center, 2425 Industrial Drive, is hosting a dance from 7-10 p.m. featuring County Liners. Admission is $10 to the public dance; costumes encouraged.

In the Park After Dark: "Hocus Pocus:" Capitol City Cinema is showing the beloved Halloween classic about the Sanderson sisters at the Capital Region MU Healthcare Amphitheater at Ellis-Porter Riverside Park. The event starts at 8 p.m. with the movie beginning at dark, around 8:30 p.m. Food truck fare and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available. It costs $5 per person; children younger than 3 are free.

SUNDAY

Halloween Public Skate: Enjoy games, a costume contest with prizes and more during a special public skating session from 1-3 p.m. at Washington Park Ice Arena, 711 Kansas St. Public session fees apply.

Trick or Treat at the Library: Celebrate Halloween from 1-5 p.m. at the Missouri River Regional Library. Children can collect candy from the circulation desks and choose a free book from a selection at the children's desk on the second floor.

JCPD Haunted Alley: The Jefferson City Police Department, 401 Monroe St., will again host a drive-thru Halloween event from 3-4:30 p.m. with department members handing out treats while you stay in your vehicle. The afternoon will also feature prizes.

Halloween Block Party: Families are invited to a block party from 3-5 p.m. on Halloween co-sponsored by First United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church. The afternoon will feature a trunk or treat, games, costumes and lots of candy. Festivities take place along the 300 block of East Capitol Avenue between the two churches. It's free to attend, but donations of non-perishable food items are suggested.

Faith Lutheran Trunk or Treat: Faith Lutheran Church, 2027 Industrial Drive, is hosting a trunk or treat from 4-6 p.m. The afternoon is complete with games, candy and a special appearance from a fire truck and police car.

Taos Trunk or Treat: Taos Countryside Park's annual trunk or treat gets underway at 4 p.m. at 4909 Countryside Park Road in Taos.

Trick or Treat in the Brick District: Dress in costume and follow the monster footprints through downtown Fulton as area businesses host a trick or treat event from 4-6 p.m. Court Street between 5th and 6th streets will be closed for the event.

Third annual Trick or Treat at Cal-Air Mechanical: Organizers are hoping for another great turnout for the third Halloween party at Cal-Air Mechanical, 1104 W. 7th St. in Fulton. The event runs 4:30-8:30 p.m. and will feature a photo booth, Halloween toys and activities, and lots of treats for the children.

Elston First Baptist Church Trunk or Treat: The First Baptist Church in Elston, 1204 Route T, is hosting a trunk or treat from 5-7 p.m.

Heartland Church Trunk or Treat: Heartland Church in Fulton, 1410 Mokane Road, is hosting a trunk or treat event from 5-7 p.m.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church Trunk or Treat: St. Paul's in Lohman, 8618 Church Hill Drive, is hosting a trunk or treat from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the church parking lot.
