There's nothing like a nice evening walk with a furry friend, especially if you can help raise money for many other animals in need at the same time.

The annual Fast & Furry Glow 5K is set for 8 p.m. Saturday starting at the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, 2308 Hyde Park Road. All the proceeds from the event benefit the shelter, provide animal enrichment supplies and help fund the Friends of the Jefferson City Animal Shelter Low Cost Spay & Neuter Program.

The walk/run is not timed and takes the greenway trail to the Washington Park tennis courts and back to the shelter. (The Facebook event page notes that most walkers are done by 9 p.m.) The event is family and dog friendly, of course, but all dogs must have current rabies vaccination and be leashed at all times on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Strollers are welcome.

Registration opens at 7 p.m. Saturday, though you can register in advance by picking up a form at the shelter or downloading one from friendsofjcas.org. Pre-registration costs $25 with a T-shirt, $20 without a T-shirt or $30 on the day of the event.

Those who register in advance will get a goody bag and a T-shirt. Prizes will be given to the overall first place male and female finishers, as well for the first place dog finisher.

To see the full list of rules or to find out more, visit friendsofjcas.org or call the shelter at 573-634-6429.
