Bundle up in your Halloween best and hit the ice this weekend during the public skate at the Washington Park Ice Arena.
The ice arena is hosting a Halloween-themed public skate 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Skating director Carly Dotts said the event will include a costume contest about halfway through the skating session, around 2 p.m., with prizes for the top spots.
The ice arena held a similar event a few years ago, Dotts said, and saw the opportunity to bring it back with Halloween falling on a Saturday this year. She said the event is set for the early afternoon to allow families plenty of time for other Halloween activities, such as trick-or-treating, throughout the rest of the day.
With fun lights and music playing, Dotts said the event should feel more like a cosmic skate event. Soda, popcorn and, of course, candy will be available.
Public session rates apply for the event, with admission being $6 for adults and $5 for youths, and skate rental costing $3.
Dotts also noted the fall skating recital will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, with teams and individual skaters showing off their best before area competitions. Admission is $1 for the recital.
The Washington Park Ice Arena is located at 711 Kansas St.
