Artist Jim Dyke and Mayor Carrie Tergin hold up their favorite paintings as they judge the 2019 spring art contest at the Jefferson City Museum of Modern Art. The 2020 contest is open to students in third through eighth grades, and submissions must by entered by March 29.

The Jefferson City Museum of Modern Art is asking elementary and middle school students to celebrate childhood by showing what inspires them as part of the annual spring art contest.

This year's contest asks student artists in third through eighth grades to complete an original drawing or painting that shows their favorite things, thoughts or memories about growing up. Submissions must be entered by March 29, with the finalists artwork being shown April 5 for final judging. Submissions may be made by students or parents individually or by a teacher or school, with parent permission.

Digital images and photography are not allowed for this contest.

The museum typically holds three art contests each year for youth in the Jefferson City area.

Submitted artwork will be judged in two divisions, with third through fifth grade students in one and sixth through eighth grade students in the other. Selected finalists will have their artwork shown at the event from 1-3 p.m. April 5. Winners will receive $300 for first place, $200 for second, $100 for third and $50 for honorable mention.

To register, fill out the form available at jcmoma.com or pick up a paper form from the museum at 220-A E. High St. during open hours, 1-3 p.m. Sundays. For more information, contact JC MoMA Director Chris Duren at [email protected].
