Capital Ritz celebrates reopening

Dance Mix Party on tap for Friday

For the last few months, it's been a little quieter than normal at Capital Ritz Banquet & Dance Center.

The global pandemic caused it, and many venues like it, to close this spring and the businesses have gradually been reopening, phasing in events and classes that once were weekly occurrences.

To celebrate the third phase of its reopening, Capital Ritz is hosting a Dance Mix Party from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday at 2716 Plaza Drive. The event will feature a variety of music for ballroom, swing, country, line and partner pattern dancing, led by Lynn and Roger Bisges and Janice and Lewis Buckner.

Banquet Manager Bev Mauzy said the third phase of reopening allows for the return of partner classes and full banquets, as phase two only opened the facility for classes and events that could be held with full social distancing practices. She said the venue staff is still working with instructors to restart the myriad of classes offered there, noting some instructors are opting to hold off on restarting classes just yet.

For the Dance Mix Party this weekend, safety precautions will be in place, including tables specifically arranged to encourage social distancing and lots of space for dancers to maintain a physical distance from other couples on the floor. Couples also will be encouraged to dance with only one regular partner and hand sanitizer will be available. Masks are recommended, but not required.
