Salute to America offers music, games

With Independence Day comes Jefferson City's annual Salute to America, a weekend full of activities, concerts and, of course, the big fireworks show.

While this year's event had some slight modifications due to the coronavirus pandemic, Salute to America will still transform downtown Jefferson City into endless fun for area families.

Here's the full rundown:

FRIDAY

While the events don't officially kick off until 4 p.m., the Missouri American Carnival Land will open at noon and close at 10 p.m., with rides and games filling Capitol Avenue starting just before Monroe Street.

The opening ceremony is set for 5 p.m. on the Madison Street Stage, at the High Street intersection, and live music will be before and after the ceremony on the Madison Street Stage and the Beer Garden Stage near Jefferson Street and Wall Way. A food court will be set up 4-10 p.m. on High Street.

Then, at 6 p.m., the Red, White and Bloom Parade will march with an extended route, kicking off near East Miller and Adams streets, heading to High Street then down Jefferson Street back to East Miller Street.

At the Capitol Stage, near High and Broadway streets, a welcome and announcements will take place at 8:15 p.m., followed by Diamond Rio at 8:30 p.m.

SATURDAY

On the Fourth of July itself, there are quite a few options at Salute, including the Kid Zone on Madison Street, between Capitol Avenue and East State, and vendors located along High Street from 4-9 p.m. The food court on High Street will be open 4-10 p.m. and the carnival will be open 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

7 p.m. - Burnin' Down The House

Capitol Stage - High Street and Broadway

6:45 p.m. - WBS Birds of Prey Raptor Exhibit

7:30 p.m. - Parade winner announcement and sponsorship thank yous

7:45 p.m. - The Lone Rangers

Heritage Village Stage - 100 block of Madison Street

4 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. - Francis Scott Key

4:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. - Professor Farquar and Pole Cat Annie

6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. - Friends of the Missouri Governor's Mansion

Performing Arts Stage - Madison Street and East Commercial Way

4 p.m. - MidMo Conservatory of Dance

4:45 p.m. - Gracie Barra Jefferson City, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense

5:30 p.m. - K-9s on the Frontline

6:15 p.m. - Royal Tigerettes

7 p.m. - Captial City Players

7:45 p.m. - Jefferson City Judo & Ju Jitsu

The closing ceremonies will begin at 9:15 p.m., followed by the main event - the Red, White and Boom Fireworks in downtown Jefferson City, set to begin at 9:45 p.m. This is one of the largest fireworks displays in the state, and those wishing to can tune into NASH FM 100.1 to hear music coordinated to go with the display.

Because of construction at the Capitol, some of the usual viewing locations may not be available.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, the carnival will be open 1-5 p.m.
