Scenic drive, scavenger hunt in Saturday line up

Mid MO Muscle Car Club hosts Photo Safari, Scavenger Hunt

It's a good time for a nice drive.

At least that's the thinking behind the next event from the Mid MO Muscle Car Club, which is the first Photo Safari/Scavenger Hunt set for Saturday.

Jenn Pettit, of the Mid MO Muscle Car Club, said the event is meant to be fun for all ages and should be something the whole family can pile into the car and enjoy. Teams will meet at Twin Bridges Bar & Grill, at 4205 Route CC, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday for registration, which runs until 11 a.m., when the team leader meeting will be held. The event itself will start at noon and last until 4 p.m.

Pettit said the event will have teams traveling from Twin Bridges, one of the club's sponsors, to several other locations and ultimately ending at Hero's Junction in Rocky Mount, where there will be a hog roast and live music. Participants will need to collect five tickets from five specified locations, all club sponsors like the Outpost Bar & Grill in Centertown, Pettit said. Along the way, there will be many other activities to complete, like taking a photo with an old tire found on the side of the road or making a video in front of a specific location, she said.

"It's just funny stuff," Pettit said.

At the end, those who collected all five tickets will have their tickets torn in half and entered into a drawing, where the winner will receive a cash prize.

Pettit said she's hoping for a good turnout, but noted it's hard to predict given concerns about public health. However, with the event being so individualized, with teams in separate vehicles, it should be safe for all involved, she said.

"They can get out and have fun," Pettit said. "Bring your kids."

Pettit said she is also hoping some of the club's sponsors will be able to get a small boost in business from the event.

To participate, teams with up to four members must pay $50, while teams with five or more members must pay $100. All proceeds will go toward "Here's to the Heroes," which Pettit described as a very new nonprofit organization that is just getting off the ground and has been started by a veteran of the U.S. National Guard in Rocky Mount. Pettit said the organization will seek to financially help veterans struggling with things such as bills and homelessness.

Pettit said the mission is something she cares deeply about as her father served in the National Guard and many family members have served in other branches of the U.S. military.

"That really touched my heart," Pettit said of the new nonprofit's mission.
