The Blair Oaks R-2 school district will have a new administrative staff member in the coming school year.
Jason Wise will be the assistant to the elementary and middle school principals. Wise has taught social studies at Blair Oaks Middle School for the last four years and has 12 total years of teaching experience.
Superintendent Jim Jones said the position is not new - Blair Oaks Elementary School Principal Tara Bishop once had it - and the position's primary role is not supervision of instruction.
Jones said the assistant helps with day-to-day operations and is shared between the elementary and middle schools for two or three days at a time at each building.
"This has been the right situation," Jones said, instead of having assistant principals at each building.

Blair Oaks athlete and athletes' parents meeting: 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at Blair Oaks High School cafeteria. All athletes in grades 9-12 and their parents are welcome to attend; athletes and their parents new to Blair Oaks athletics are highly encouraged to attend.
Freshmen orientation: 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Blair Oaks High School gym.

OTHER DETAILS
Average student/teacher ratio: 20-to-1 for the district.
Enrollment: Preliminary K-12 enrollment for the 2018-19 school year was 1,247, according to the state's education department. Enrollment for the 2019-20 school year is projected to again be more 1,230 students.
Facility changes: The district is in the process of renovating the locker rooms for Blair Oaks High School's gym, with the knowledge that the facilities will serve students in grades 6-8 starting in August 2021; the improvements should be completed prior to the start of the school year.
Goals for 2019-20: Curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular program development as part of the district's comprehensive educational program will remain a focus. The district will continue to strive to provide students with the most comprehensive educational opportunities possible.
