The Rusted Satellite Collective perform at the Holiday Hootenanny at The Mission in 2017. The annual fundraiser for the Jefferson City School District's orchestra program is set for Saturday.

Continuing in what has become an annual event, The Mission will host its fifth Holiday Hootenanny this Saturday.

The event started as a simple December gig that snowballed into a fundraiser concert to benefit the Jefferson City School District's orchestra program. In the first two years combined, the event raised more than $1,000.

The entry fee this year is $5, and all money collected will go to the orchestra program.

"Five years ago, it came to our attention it costs approximately $6,000 annually for repairs and maintenance on the instruments that are provided for FREE to any 5th-12th grade students," according to the Holiday Hootenanny's Facebook page.

All past money raised went to offset those costs. But, according to the event page, that has since changed and the district is funding instrument repair, including new strings, cases and music. Because of that change, the fundraiser can now direct money toward new projects, such as funding clinicians, music theory computer programs and more electric instruments.

"Even though the Hootenanny was started to help us with instrument repair we would love to keep working with you on the Hootenanny to help create new opportunities for our students," Aimee Veile, who leads the high school concert and symphonic orchestras, said on the event's Facebook page.

This year's Hootenanny will feature a four-hour music variety show with 44 songs of the season being presented. The show will include a special orchestra performance and music from Abigail Rose, Paige Dow, Magnolia Wine, Ryan Grosvenor, Nichole Acree Fallon & Jordan Fallon, Lix Graham, Rich Robben, Sarah Parker, Erin Jensen, Katie Beshuk, Adam Hunt and Rose Ridge.

According to the event page, Mary Cremer also will be selling a limited supply of hand painted tree ornaments for $10 each.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. The Mission is located at 915 E. High St.
