Community Band hosts Christmas concert, sing-a-long

Ready to sing along with some holiday favorites?

Then head to the Capital Mall on Saturday morning to join the Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band as members play the songs so many know and love during the holiday season.

Becky Miller, a member of the board of directors for the band, said the concert, which will be about an hour long, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Sears wing of the Capital Mall. The free show will feature the band's 60 members as they play a mix of traditional and newer holiday music and carols from "The Grinch" to "Sleigh Ride," with something for everyone, Miller said.

Miller said the band will play eight traditional carols where they hope audience members will find their own voices and sing along to fill the mall with holiday songs. Miller said the band will even play "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)."

"We'll even have some kazoos," Miller said with a laugh. "Hopefully, people can chime in with us."

The Christmas concert Saturday is free, as all performances by the Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band are.

"We're a community-based organization and we do it just to share our love of music with the community," Miller said.

Anyone interested in learning more about the band, can find the group on Facebook. Miller said the group is always looking for new members to grab their instruments and join, noting they rehearse at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
