Downtown Jefferson City will be nothing short of some lively entertainment in the coming weeks. The Thursday Night Live concert series will be every Thursday, May 31 through June 28.

The family friendly block party will host a variety of live bands with two to three playing each night. The events will also have different themes beginning with Kick Off to Summer where Apostles Creek and Decadent Nation will begin the summer fun with rock and roll May 31.

The following Thursdays will include a preview to the entertainers that will perform at the Salute To America concert also take place June 7. A local Wingfest where guests can sample wings from roughly 10 downtown bars and restaurants and vote for their favorite sample takes place June 14, and then there will be a MAHD Motorcycle Bike Show sponsored by Mid America Harley Davidson on June 21.

"That is a change for this year," event director Jill Snodgrass said. "In the past we've had the motorcycles ride in where the motorcycles park in the festival district in the 100-200 block. But this year we are going to be accessing the 300 block for motorcycles and part of the block will be for motorcycles who want to be in the block show, and there will actually be prizes and trophies and both a judges choice and guests will be able to vote for their favorite as well."

The concert series will then end with a Giant Sand Beach Party on June 28 where Aftershock and Groove Thang will perform as guests enjoy the 70 tons of sand where children and adults can build sand castles and play with beach balls.

Each night will have a variety of food and beverage specials available at the nearby bars and restaurants. This year will also be the first time Sweet Smoke BBQ will participate in the event.

The concerts will take place at the corner Madison and High streets, and access points to the block party will be located at Madison Monroe and Jefferson streets. The event is free, but adults 21 and older can purchase $2 wrist bands to take part in the downtown food and drink specials, which helps cover the cost of the event each year. Anyone 16 and under will need to be accompanied by a parent and families are asked not to bring their pets. Downtown street and garage parking will be available at no charge.
