Toys for Tots to kick off 2017 campaign

A big celebration is planned throughout the day on Halloween to kick off this year's Marine Corps League Toys for Tots campaign in Jefferson City.

From 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday, Wendy's at Capital Mall will donate 30 percent of qualifying sales to the Toys for Tots Foundation.

A formal ceremony is scheduled at 11 a.m. at Wendy's, and artist Benny Kempker will perform live during lunch time, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The celebration continues at the mall, with Solid Rock Church hosting its "trunk or treat" event 6-8:30 p.m. The Reid Millard Racing Teams' Prison Brews race car will be on display in the mall, along with artist Dave Barker performing.

Last year, Toys for Tots officials said, they helped 1,330 children in Cole County and 534 in Moniteau County, which is doing its own county campaign this year. Adding in Howard, Osage, Callaway and Audrain counties, Toys for Tots helped 2,630 children in a six-county area.
