ElmSt. Boxing Club found a new home on East Capitol Avenue in Jefferson City.

The boxing club opened at 330 E. Capitol Ave., previously home to Encore Department Store, last week after moving from its original 512 Ellis Blvd. location.

The new space is about twice the size of ElmSt. Box Club's former space, owner Mario Antonio said.

"We need it," he said. "We definitely had outgrown our (Ellis Boulevard) location."

Last Thursday, boxers of all ages honed their skills, punching bags and working on their footwork. Antonio credited his club members for the move.

"This moment really isn't about me or the club; it's about every individual in the club who poured their sweat, blood and tears into this place and allowed us to harness that energy and put something this great into existence," he said. "We're much further from we started than where we need to go, so we just got to keep going, and this is the perfect space to do it."

At ElmSt. Boxing Club, Antonio trains people at all boxing skill levels, from beginner to competing experts. With the new location, he added, he hopes to attract more boxers and potentially partner with other businesses.

"At the Elevated Mindset Boxing Club, all are welcomed and all can grow from this," he said.

Antonio also hopes to eventually offer more private lessons and expand hours at the new location.

After moving out of the East Capitol Avenue space last year, Encore Department Store reopened at 113 E. High St. in July.
