Julie Smith/News TribuneTarget has been undergoing remodeling since early January and one of the features is a re-done beauty products area that features new shelving and brighter lighting.

Customers are no longer greeted by bright red walls and small aisles at Target in Jefferson City.

Target, at 735 W. Stadium Blvd, has undergone noticeable interior remodeling over the last couple of months. Construction ended a couple of weeks ago.

Its signature red walls were painted gray, while the red floor tiles were replaced with gray tiles.

The beauty section underwent a "major makeover," joked Belva Blair, who oversees the retail remodeling. The tall, long shelves were replaced with small, sleek-looking shelves, and the new lighting brightens up the section.

"We've seen a huge growth in the beauty market within Target as a whole, so they kind of put the money up for the remodels where people are shopping - electronics, beauty and style," she said. "When people come in to shop for commodities and groceries, they're not looking for that 'wow' factor the way they are the things that are more like a splurge buy."

Across from the beauty section are the style sections, which now feature new shelves, display tables, mannequins and gray carpet. Target also separated the women's and juniors' sections.

The jewelry section that was near the front of the store was removed, and the jewelry was combined with the women's and juniors' sections.

"The shopping experience is more like destinations," Blair said.

With Target's main demographic being young mothers, Human Resources Director Kylie Lewis said she is excited corporate renovated the fitting area to include a spacious nursing room.

"It's more comfortable, and I think that's important nowadays," she said.

When customers trying on clothes step out of the fitting rooms, they are greeted by a red carpet that leads to a lit mirror.

The grocery, entertainment, electronic, intimates and shoe sections, as well as the Starbucks cafe, also underwent some renovations, Blair said.

The exterior of Target now sports new signs and some minor updates too, she said.

"Bryan Cornell, who's our CEO of the company now, his vision for the company has been very different than what we saw before," she said. "The company has really been increasing, whereas before we were kind of decreasing like other retailers. So while other stores are closing up, Target is putting money into the community and into their stores."
