BizBeat: Jefferson City Judo Club, Jefferson City Jujitsu upgrades to larger space

After a sharp uptick in membership over the summer, it became apparent the Jefferson City Judo Club and Jefferson City Jujitsu needed a larger space.

The Jefferson City Judo Club and Jefferson City Jujitsu will relocate from 1102 Missouri Blvd. to 1301 Creek Trail Drive at the beginning of the new year.

The school will move into the 9,300-square-foot space the first week of January, owner Josh Lehmen said. He hopes to begin classes at the new location the second week of January.

"We're slowly running out of room here, so we're really needing that extra space to keep growing our school and give the students what they need," he said.

The school has about 50-55 students.

The mat space at the Creek Trail Drive location will be more than double the mat space at the Missouri Boulevard location - 1,600 square feet versus 4,100 square feet.

"This current location on Missouri Boulevard is 4,000 square feet. So our mat space is going to be a little larger than this entire building," he said.

Lehmen said he plans to offer additional classes as well as open mat time on Saturdays. The gym will also have new climbing ropes.

The Jefferson City Judo Club and Jefferson City Jujitsu classes are not segregated by age, Lehmen said, but he does split the classes into groups. The extra space will allow him to break off into groups more easily.

The school has been located on Missouri Boulevard since March 2018.
