It's fairly common to see a line stretching out the door of Sweet Smoke BBQ in downtown Jefferson City during lunchtime, and owner John Biggs hopes to receive the same positive reception at the business' second location on the city's west side.

A second Sweet Smoke BBQ will open by the new year near Capital Mall, at 3530 Country Club Drive, Biggs said.

Biggs, who lives on the west side, said he saw a need for more food and decided Sweet Smoke BBQ would help satisfy that void. There are also residents who live on the west side who do not venture downtown often.

"We've done so well down here, and I just feel like we could do more," Biggs said. "Jeff City has received us very well, and we're grateful for it, so we're going to do some more stuff."

The second location will have all of the same menu items as the downtown location, but it will also have some specialty items, he said.

Previously home to Pizza Hut, the building will have about the same amount of seating but will have a patio, larger kitchen and more parking, Biggs said.

He emphasized he is not closing Sweet Smoke BBQ's downtown location at 127 E. High St., which opened in May 2018.

"There's no way we would close this one; this one is busy," he said.
