ST. CHARLES -- The South Callaway Lady Bulldogs qualified two wrestlers to the state tournament at the Class 1 District 2 Tournament held Friday and Saturday at St. Charles West High School.
The two state qualifiers are the most in a single season for South Callaway, which qualified one wrestler for state in the previous two seasons.
Lilli Lewis and Dalayna Hargis both will make their second state tournament appearance.
Lewis, a state qualifier last season, won a district title at 190 pounds for the Lady Bulldogs. Lewis finished with a 4-0 record, winning all four matches by fall, including three in the first period. She pinned Fulton’s Carly Foster in 1:16 in the first-place match.
Hargis, who previously competed in the state tournament in 2022, came in third place at 120 in districts. Hargis finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, winning all four matches by fall. She finished with a pin in 3:36 against Syria Bell of St. Charles to win the third-place match.
Lewis and Hargis will compete in the Class 1 state wrestling championships Feb. 21-22 at Mizzou Arena.
Lotus Gwaltney posted a 1-2 record with a win by fall at 115 for South Callaway, while Shelby Doster had an 0-2 record at 130 to round out the Lady Bulldogs’ district lineup.
South Callaway finished 13th out of 33 teams in the district standings with 56 points. Brookfield won the district title with 153.5 points.
