Prep Baseball: Mexico 3, Eugene 2

MEXICO -- The Mexico Bulldogs outlasted the Eugene Eagles for a 3-2 win in eight innings Tuesday.

Neither team scored in the first five innings. Mexico broke through in the bottom of the sixth, hitting three consecutive singles before Chance McCarty was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a 1-0 lead.

Eugene pitcher Cole Bradley stranded the bases loaded to end the inning, then Eugene tied the game at 1 in the top of the seventh when Drew Hart hit a two-out single to center field, scoring Bradley.

Ryan Lepper put the Eagles in front with a two-out RBI double in the eighth inning, scoring Sam Schulte.

Mexico answered in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single from Austin Maxwell to tie the game. The Bulldogs then won on a walk-off error.

Bradley had the no-decision, going seven full innings and giving up one run on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

The Eagles finished the game with four hits. Chase Morrow hit a double and Schulte had a single for the remaining hits.

Eugene (3-3), which is receiving votes in the Class 2 state rankings, hosts the Eugene Quad on Friday and Saturday. The Eagles play Waynesville on Day 1 and Boonville and Hallsville on Day 2.
