Prep Baseball: Calvary Lutheran 6, Stover 5

STOVER -- Braylon Schulte scored on an error in the top of the sixth inning Monday, which proved to be the deciding run for the Calvary Lutheran Lions in a 6-5 victory against the Stover Bulldogs.

Schulte reached on a one-out error to start the sixth inning, moved to second base on an intentional walk to Jesse Jorgensen and then scored on a two-out error to break a tie at 5.

Calvary Lutheran scored in each of the first four innings. Jorgensen scored on a balk in the first inning, Andrew Hardin scored on a passed ball in the second, then Ben Hardin hit an RBI single and Will Kuhlmann scored on a double-steal in the third inning to give the Lions a 4-2 advantage.

Jorgensen added an RBI double in the fourth to give Calvary Lutheran a three-run advantage. Stover tied the game up with three runs in fifth.

After Calvary Lutheran took back the lead in the following inning, Jorgensen retired six straight batters to seal the win.

In three innings of relief, Jorgensen earned the win, striking out four of the nine batters he faced. Ben Hardin had four walks and one strikeout, while Cody Kollmeyer followed with five strikeouts and two walks in 3⅔ innings of relief.

Jorgensen also had a big game at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Ben Hardin added a pair of hits, including a double.

Calvary Lutheran (2-2) hosts Vienna on Thursday. The Lions’ CCAA conference game Tuesday against Bunceton/Prairie Home was postponed due to rain and will be rescheduled.
