Abney named interim athletic director at Lincoln

Tim Abney has been named as the interim director of athletics at Lincoln University.

In a announcement Monday afternoon, Abney was named to the position after the recent departure of Kevin Wilson. Abney currently serves as the assistant athletic director for administration at Lincoln.

“Tim has a longstanding history with Lincoln University Athletics from all aspects -- as a student, coach and administrator. His experience and genuine love for our University and our students are key factors in his selection for this role. I know he will lead well,” Lincoln president John Moseley said in a release from the school.

Abney is a 1978 graduate of Lincoln, playing on the Blue Tigers men’s basketball team. He spent 10 years as head coach of the Lincoln women’s basketball team as well as coaching tennis for seven years.

In 2017, Abney was inducted into the Lincoln University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Wilson left Lincoln last month to accept a position at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C.

“The University is grateful to Dr. Wilson for his successes between 2021 through this year,” Moseley said. “Under his leadership, we have seen the reintroduction of baseball and soccer, and he has also helped guide us through the process of joining the Great Lakes Valley Conference.”

Abney began his duties Monday.
