ST. ELIZABETH -- The Lin Lady Wildcats rallied from a three-run deficit, knocking off the St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets for a 5-4 win in eight innings in Show-Me Conference play.
St. Elizabeth led 3-0 through one inning. Dani Heckemeyer hit an RBI single, then scored on a ground-ball fielder’s choice hit by Charlize Duemmel. Reagan Wobbe came home from third base on a sacrifice bunt by Chloe Oligschaleger to extend the lead to three runs.
Linn scored two runs in the third inning, then Kiana Hostetler hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Lady Wildcats a 4-3 advantage.
Allie Williams evened the score at 4 with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh for the Lady Hornets.
After a scoreless seventh inning, Linn’s first three batters reached base in the eighth. Katlyn Starke was hit by a pitch, moved to second base on a single by Hostetler, advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Ellie Monnette.
Hostetler had two of Linn’s eight hits. Starke hit a triple prior to Hostetler’s homer.
Addie Doerhoff and Heckemeyer each had a three-hit game for the Lady Hornets. Williams also had a pair of hits.
Ava Warren pitched all eight innings to earn the win for the Lady Wildcats. She gave up four runs on 10 hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Riley Hammond struck out three batters in three-plus innings for St. Elizabeth, while Vanessa Heckemeyer had four strikeouts in five innings of relief.
Linn (11-3, 3-1 Show-Me) continues conference play at home Thursday against Tuscumbia.
St. Elizabeth (13-2, 3-1 Show-Me), ranked No. 1 in Class 1, hosts Iberia at 5 p.m. today.
In Monday’s JV game, St. Elizabeth defeated Linn 6-5. Sarah Backes had a single and three RBI to lead the Lady Hornets, while Brynnlee Furgeson had three hits and two RBI for the Lady Wildcats.
