The Jefferson City Police Department arrested three St. Louis residents for allegedly stealing from a cosmetics retailer and leading officers on a chase.

Officers responded to a theft in progress shortly after 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Ulta Beauty on Missouri Boulevard, with dispatchers advising that two women were leaving the business with several large bags of stolen items. The suspects left in a silver Ford Fusion with temporary registration -- a vehicle description that matched other recent theft reports, according to a news release.

A JCPD officer observed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle didn't yield and fled northbound across the Missouri River Bridge.

As the pursuit continued north along U.S. Highway 54, JCPD requested assistance from other law enforcement agencies. The Callaway County Sheriff's Office deployed tire deflation devices and disabled the vehicle near the intersection of Highway 54 and County Road 402.

Two of the three car occupants fled on foot but were soon caught within the perimeter established by the Missouri Highway Patrol, Callaway County Sheriff's K9 Unit and Fulton Police Department. All three suspects were taken into custody and transported back to Jefferson City to be processed.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered a fully loaded 9mm handgun and a large trash bag containing Ulta Beauty merchandise.

Police are now holding a 22-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman for second degree property damage, resisting or interfering with arrest, tampering with physical evidence and stealing. Police also have a 31-year-old man in custody for driving while suspended, resisting or interfering with arrest, tampering with physical evidence, stealing and possession of a firearm by a felon.
