Prep Cross Country: Two Cavaliers earn spots in state meet

NIXA — The Capital City Cavaliers took fifth as a team with 173 points, missing a team state berth by three points behind Carl Junction’s 170, in the Class 4 District 2 meet Saturday.

Rocky Nelson led the Cavaliers with a 19th-place finish in 16:52.45, earning an individual spot in the state tournament along with Rahi Patel, who placed 30th in 17:28.17.

Gauge Walker took 38th in 17:47.00, Thomas Harlan placed 40th in 17:52.70 and Eli Nicklas rounded out the Cavaliers counting times with a 46th-place time of 18:12.24.

Levi Casey ran a time of 18:22.76 for 52nd and Tyren Whitaker took 61st in 18:38.57.

The Class 4 boys state race will begin at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia.
