Letter from the Editor: Winter

Jordan Thornsberry is the editorial director at NT Magazines.

Winter is approaching, and I can almost smell the warm apple cider and pumpkin pie. This winter, I am looking forward to baking cookies with my mom, sisters and brother back home. We started a new tradition last Christmas season of making treats for friends and neighbors to celebrate the holidays. One of the things I cherish most about the upcoming season is the time spent with family, as well as the traditions we uphold.

Whether it be while making your own Halloween costume, trying new recipes or spending a weekend away, traditions can start at any moment.

In this issue of JC Parents, writer Karly Balslew gives tips on how to stay safe this Halloween. On a similar note, Jack Hansen, PharmD, gives medication safety tips, including what to watch out for in children’s Halloween candy. Writer Aaliyah Finton shares six last-minute Halloween costume ideas in case time got away from you. As we get deeper into winter, you might want to visit the Washington Park Ice Arena. Luckily, Molly Bryan put together everything you need to know before your visit, including information on programs.

Also, check out Shelby Kardell’s gift guide for kids for gift-spiration this holiday season. She gives ideas for local gifts, trending toys and unique experiences.

Maybe one of these stories will inspire you to create a new tradition with your little one(s). Nonetheless, I hope this holiday season is filled with joy, warmth and togetherness.
