Lincoln women's basketball rolls to win in home opener

Ashlyn Alloway scored 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting and brought down six rebounds to lead the Lincoln Blue Tigers to a 101-59 win Friday night in women's basketball action against Bible Baptist College at Jason Gym.

Three more Blue Tigers joined Alloway in double figures in Lincoln’s home opener with Tatiana Beaumont scoring 15 on 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc, Steph Torress scoring 13 to go with three rebounds, three steals and three assists, while Kiara Cabrera had 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Hanne Nybo brought down a team-high seven rebounds and passed out five assists, while Saniya Simmons dished out a team-high six assists.

Lincoln scored the first 10 points of the matchup with Alloway hitting a fast-break layup after a Nybo steal to make it 10-0 with 6:57 left in the first quarter.

The Blue Tigers extended their lead as far as 11 points after a Beaumont 3 with 2:18 left, making the score 19-8. Lincoln took a 22-12 lead into the first break.

Bible Baptist cut the lead to eight after two Gabby Coble free throws t0 make it 22-14 with 9:40 left before halftime, but the Blue Tigers scored 26 of the next 33 points to take a 48-21 lead into halftime.

Lincoln continued to build its advantage in the third quarter, going up by as much as 37 at two points late in the quarter. An AJ Bradley 3 with 38 seconds left put the Blue Tigers up 74-37 and an Alloway jumper with 12 seconds left made it 76-39.

Cassidy Hambelton hit a jumper for two of her 10 points to cut the Blue Tiger lead to 76-41 heading to the fourth.

Lincoln extended to a 40-point lead after a Cabrera free throw with 9:19 left made it 81-41, which was the biggest Blue Tiger lead before the final 42-point margin after an Emma Wolken 3 with 49 seconds left.

Lincoln hit 38-of-68 (55.9 percent) of its overall tries, 12-of-29 (41.4 percent) from 3 and 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) at the free throw line.

The Blue Tigers outrebounded Bible Baptist 44-31 and forced 14 turnovers.

Abby Woolsey led Bible Baptist with 13 points and five rebounds, while Josie Sullivan had 13 points and three boards. Kailyn Washington added 11 points and four rebounds.

Lincoln (2-1) will travel to Springfield for the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center Thanksgiving Classic, where the Blue Tigers will play two games.

They will face Truman State at 1 p.m. Tuesday and Drury at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
