A Jefferson City man faces charges after allegedly firing a handgun at a neighbor during an argument.
Matthew Laux was charged in Cole County with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and assault with a deadly weapon.
A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Laux and a neighbor were arguing Saturday evening in the 1400 block of Jefferson Street over the neighbor's dog coming onto Laux's property. During the conflict, Laux allegedly displayed a handgun and fired in the neighbor's direction.
After being contacted by police, Laux reportedly said he believed the dog to be a deadly weapon and had been defending himself. He said he aimed at the dog but missed his shot.
The neighbor said she had been standing right by the dog, which was on a leash, and that she feared for her life.
A silver and black Taurus .380 was reportedly found on Laux's porch.
