Lohman man pleads guilty to DUI, assault

A Lohman man was sentenced to probation and community service after pleading guilty to DUI and assault charges.

Isaiah Kauffman pleaded guilty in Cole County court to DUI and fourth-degree assault. He was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation and a combined 100 hours of community service.

Troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded May 14 to reports of an early-morning UTV crash in the 1500 block of Terrace Drive, according to a probable cause statement. They spoke with a passenger of the vehicle who said the driver, Isaiah Kauffman, had been driving erratically and steered into a ditch, which overturned the vehicle.

Kauffman confirmed to them he was driving the vehicle, saying he did not see a drainage ditch ahead of him in time to avoid it. Troopers reported signs of intoxication, including glassy eyes and slurred speech, and he allegedly told them he had had three drinks prior to driving. He was transported away for medical attention after a blood sample was extracted, the statement said.

Further investigation revealed three occupants of the UTV received injuries, including lacerations, fractured bones and concussions. Those injuries led to the assault charge.
