Patriotic tunes and science-fiction soundtracks will meet at the next concert of the Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band.
They will kick off the performance with a commemorative march entitled "The Tenth Regiment March" by R.B. Hall.
"It's kind of a tribute to our army," conductor Paul Hinman said.
The rest of the first half of the concert will contain a wide variety of pieces, including transcriptions of a Mozart piece, marches, and more.
After a brief break, they will be doing something that is slightly unusual for the band, according to Hinman. Having received a large donation of extra-terrestrial and science-fiction-themed music, the band will be performing a series of soundtrack music such as the theme from "Star Trek," a collection of music from "Apollo 13," soundtrack highlights from "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and more.
This concert will only feature part of their new collection, so their concerts for the rest of the season will most likely also include pieces of the same nature, according to Hinman.
The concert will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Missouri Capitol rotunda, 201 W. Capitol Ave. in Jefferson City. The concert is free and open to the public, but they will have a donation box set up.
