OATS to end cash payments, reduce many fares

by Genevieve Tlustos | May 26, 2023 at 4:00 a.m.

All OATS Transit rides will be standardized to $2 per one-way ride starting July 1.

This affects riders in Cole County -- dropping the price for rides within Cole County by a third from $3 to the standard $2.

The fare within Jefferson City remains the same -- $2.

At the same time, OATS Transit's Mid-Mo Region Office will stop accepting cash payments and all counties will share the standardized fare structure.

Riders will be required to add funds to their OATS Transit accounts in advance, and fares will be withdrawn per ride.

Jill Stedem, administrative director of OATS Transit, said the organization is making changes in order to keep buses on schedule, ensure safety of drivers and make the process more convenient for riders.
