Helias track and field looks for numbers to add up to trophies

They are ready to throw some big numbers at trying to win state honors.

A total of 29 athletes from Helias will take part in the Class 4 track and field state championships today and Saturday at Adkins Stadium.

“It’s a good mix of boys events, girls events, track events, field events,” Helias coach Phil Pitts said. “It’s going to be a fun two days.”

It’s been a while since Helias has earned a track and field team trophy. The last one for the Lady Crusaders was a fourth-place finish in Class 3A in 1999, while the boys have finished fourth at state twice, the last in 1993.
