Cultural arts master plan looks to next steps

by Cameron Gerber | May 26, 2023 at 4:00 a.m.
Julie Smith/News Tribune Jefferson City Parks and Rec and other entities have worked together to provide art installations in city parks. These three pieces are located adjacent the greenway that runs through Community Park on the city's near east side. A survey was conducted and results are being analyzed as to the possibility of more art installations to capitalize on the talents of local artists.

The city's study of how best to accentuate its artists and culture will paint a clear picture of the community's needs, but there's more research to be done before the image is complete.

The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and consultant Keen Independent are working together on a cultural arts master plan meant to tap into artistic and cultural opportunities to make the Capital City more vibrant. The plan will be used to guide parks as it works to bolster art and its use in the community.

The team plans to meet as a committee next Thursday to discuss the master plan while Keen works through the responses on one of the project's information-gathering tools.
