Three injured in crashes Monday

Two Jefferson City residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Cole County.

Johnnie E. Light, of Jefferson City, was driving Monday south on Missouri 179 about 1,200 feet south of Modesto Road when Anil K. Thakuri, from Atlanta, Georgia, tried to pass him.

The trailer Thakuri was pulling with his 2017 Peterbilt semi-truck hit Light's 2001 Hyundai Accent during the attempted pass, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol crash report.

The impact caused Light, 74, to drive off the right side of the road and hit a ditch.

Light and his passenger, Martha Light, 70, also from Jefferson City, sustained minor injuries and were taken to SSM Health St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City by ambulance.

Thakuri, 53, was not injured. Both drivers and the passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
