Jefferson City man charged with unlawful use of weapon

A Jefferson City man was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm over the weekend.

Kenneth Munson, 43, was arrested after police responded to reports of shots fired around 3 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Elizabeth Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. Officers reportedly saw Munson outside the residence, and he went back inside. Two shell casings were reportedly recovered from the scene.

Police reportedly saw a man on security footage firing a round into the air and matched his appearance with the earlier sighting of Munson.

When shown a still image from the footage, Munson reportedly told police, "That's me" and admitted to firing the weapon into the air, saying he was testing it to see if it would work. He said he had been drinking prior to the incident.

Munson, who has prior convictions, was placed under arrest and the firearm was located in his room after a search warrant was obtained. He was already on probation for unlawful use of a weapon.
