WEAUBLEAU, Mo. -- The St. Elizabeth Hornets put up one crooked number after another Monday night.

St. Elizabeth scored multiple runs in every inning, hit six home runs and cruised to a 16-1 victory in five innings against the Weaubleau Tigers in a Class 1 state sectional contest.

Jace Kesel finished with three home runs to lead St. Elizabeth, giving him 11 homers this spring.

Kesel started the Hornets’ scoring with a two-run home run to center field in the top of the first inning, scoring Eli Kemna. He followed that with a three-run home run in the second, stretching the lead to 6-0.

Kesel’s third home run was a solo shot in the fourth. He went 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBI.

Caleb Oligschlaeger hit a three-run home run to center field in the third inning, Kemna hit a two-run homer to right field in the fourth and Gavin Williams hit a two-run blast to center field, also in the fourth.

Oligschlaeger accounted for the Hornets’ remaining RBI with a run-scoring single in the second inning, as he finished 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI.

Kemna had a team-high four hits, adding a double and two singles, while Blake Wobbe had three hits, all singles. Wobbe and Kemna each scored four runs, while Oligschlaeger and Kesel each scored three times.

Isaac Green went 2-for-3 and drove in the Hornets’ remaining two runs.

Weaubleau scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run hit by Zach Brown.

Williams pitched the first four innings for St. Elizabeth, giving up one run on two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Carter Otto pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning in relief, striking out one.

Weaubleau, ranked No. 10 in Class 1 and the District 7 champion, finishes its season with an 18-10 record.

It’s the third straight season the Hornets have defeated the Tigers in the state sectionals. St. Elizabeth won 10-0 last season and 11-0 two years ago.

St. Elizabeth (20-6), ranked No. 2, advances to the Class 1 state quarterfinals to play Wednesday at Liberal (19-11), which is receiving votes in the state rankings. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Liberal Baseball Field.

Liberal knocked off sixth-ranked Billings with a 4-3 walk-off victory in Monday’s sectional round.
