There's a new bakery in the area offering home-recipe treats to Jefferson City and surrounding communities.
Killer Sweet Desserts owner Allison Pawlish said the new business offers treats for celebrations, such as cakes, cupcakes and chocolate-covered confections like pretzels. She also makes banana nut and lemon loaves and just added cake pops, she said.
"Everything's made from scratch, fresh to order, from my own recipes. And I'm expanding my menu. I'm just working on recipes all the time," she said. "Generally, we can pretty much do anything if somebody reaches out. I pride myself on that as my own recipe instead of a box recipe."
Pawlish said she had always wanted to open a bakery, and finally took the plunge to get started earlier this year.
"I've always worked full time and never really devoted the time to it. And this year, I decided I was just gonna go for it and hope that it works out," she said. "I've always kind of had the name in the back of my head, and I looked it up and saw it was available -- I registered it one day and just went for it. I decided it was time to do this."
Pawlish, who is based in New Bloomfield, said she takes orders from Mid-Missouri areas including Jefferson City, Columbia, Fulton, Ashland and Holts Summit. She said one of the best things about launching the business was the support from other home-bakers in the area, who she said are quick to offer advice or move clients along when their plates are too full.
"I'm trying to learn and meet everybody, and we're trying to help each other and support small businesses and keep things local as much as we can," she said.
