A St. Louis man was sentenced to five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to drug charges from 2021.

Charles Yelm, 57, pleaded guilty last week to possession of a controlled substance and driving while revoked or suspended.

A probable cause statement from the Cole County Sheriff's Office stated a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Yelm at the intersection of Route E and Tanner Bridge Road for a reported vehicle registration violation at about 8 p.m. March 2, 2021. The deputy activated his emergency lights, but Yelm reportedly accelerated and continued south on Route E onto Deer Run Road. Yelm attempted to elude deputies and eventually pulled into a driveway in the 11000 block of Deer Run Road, where he was taken into custody.

Deputies searched Yelm and his vehicle, and reportedly recovered more than an ounce of marijuana, 5 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
