Prep Track and Field: Southern Boone boys rally for second-place finish in districts

It took about 50 hours to complete, but the Class 3 District 4 track and field meet came to a conclusion Monday at Montgomery County High School.

Timothy Lutz and Andrew Pridemore finished in third and fourth place, respectively, in the boys triple jump, the final event of the meet, giving the Southern Boone Eagles 11 points in the team standings, moving them past Centralia by a point to take second place in the district.

Southern Boone finished with 92 points, while Centralia -- which scored three team points in the triple jump -- was third with 91 points. Bowling Green ran away with the boys district team title, posting 148 points.

The district meet began Saturday at North Point High School in Wentzville, but because of two weather delays, only 18 of the 19 events -- for both boys and girls -- were completed that day.

The long jump was the only girls event in Monday’s conclusion. Raegan Johnson posted a seventh-place finish for the Southern Boone Lady Eagles in the event.

Connor Burns accounted for all three event district titles for the Southern Boone boys.

Burns won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:32.57, then he won the 3,200-meter run in 9:43.95.

Burns started the day in the 4x800-meter relay, and along with Brian Burns, Landon Rehg and Noah Ottinger, the Eagles posted a first-place time of 8:18.18.

Southern Boone also advanced to sectionals in two other relay events. Luke Amelunke, Braidan Jackson, Marc White and Noah Ottinger placed second in the 4x200-meter relay, while Weston Jennings, Jackson, White and Brady Dapkus finished third in the 4x100-meter relay.

Also on the track for the Eagles, Dapkus took third place in the 110-meter hurdles.

Joining Lutz and Pridemore at sectionals in the field events for the Southern Boone boys are Aiden McDaniel, who was second in the shot put, Justin Post, who placed third in the discus, and White, who finished fourth in the long jump.

The top-four finishers in each district event advanced to the Class 3 Sectional 2 meet, which is Saturday at Mexico.

The Southern Boone girls finished last out of 11 teams in the district team standings with 21 points. Centralia won the district title with 158 points and Palmyra was runner-up with 115.5 points.

The Lady Eagles advanced two individuals to sectionals. Eleanor Samuels finished third in the 100-meter hurdles and Taylor Germann placed third in the 400-meter dash.
