The combination of food, drinks and live music are sure to draw a crowd. Red Ox Distillery, a new distillery based in Foristell, is hosting its first ever Red Ox Music Fest from 3-10 p.m. May 27 at Timber Ridge Barn in Jefferson City.
The event will include live music from three local bands, including 90s rock band Finneous Gauge, a classic rock and country band called Scarred Nation, and the debut of Live Steam, a new Jefferson City cover band that performs everything from Bon Jovi to Fleetwood Mac.
Drinks will be provided by the Red Ox and Last Flight Brewing Company. A variety of food will be available to choose from, including Mammoth Bites, Gator Wagon and Alibi Cookies. There will also be a celiac option available from Lee's Chicken that includes baked chicken, green beans and coleslaw. Requests for the celiac option must be made a week before the event at the latest.
Red Ox Distellery -- named because of the owner's last name and red hair -- is owned by business partners Cole Oxley and Hunter Smith.
"You could say I'm the mascot, really. And Hunter is the owner of the team," Oxley said with a laugh.
Red Ox Distillery focuses on quality, local ingredients to make their products.
"We're looking at old recipes kind of lost to man and then we're adding a modern American Missouri twist to it," Oxley said.
New cordials that they will be releasing include Limoncello, Limecello and Orangecello. They will also have a lavender liqueur and almond liqueur.
"As far as I know, I'm the only one who makes a uniquely almond-only liqueur. There are other liqueurs that have almonds in it, but they're not almond-only," Oxley said.
If you're more of a whiskey fan, don't worry; it's on their list to release soon.
Tickets are $16 and can be purchased on Eventbrite. A discount for glasses and shirts will be offered online when purchasing tickets but there will also be a merchandise booth at the event. Oxley said the VIP section has already sold out, as well as approximately 50 percent of the rest of the tickets.
