MOKANE -- The South Callaway Bulldogs finished runner-up Saturday in the Class 2 District 4 meet.
The Bulldogs tallied 89 points, one ahead of Russellville and Cole Camp. Harrisburg won the team title with 144 points.
On the girls side, Father Tolton cruised to a team championship with 150 points. Harrisburg was a distant second with 97 points.
The South Callaway boys won three field events at the meet. Nathan Russell won the javelin with a throw of 149 feet, 4 inches, while Kyle Dickinson finished first in the discus with a toss of 148-5. Colten Crocker also placed first in the pole vault for the Bulldogs, clearing a height of 12-6.
The lone first-place finish for the Russellville boys came in the 4x100-meter relay, as Drake Armes, Nolan Gartner, Chris Seaver and Brennen Stinson crossed the finish line in a time of 44.21 seconds.
Other area district champions on the boys side were Eugene’s Ryder Belt, who won the high jump with a height of 6-2, and Tipton’s Johnathan Matchett, who took first place in the long jump with a leap of 21-9.
The Russellville girls finished third in the district standings with 91 points. Trinity Riggs was a double-winner for the Lady Indians, placing first in the shot put (38-6¼) and the discus (116-9).
The South Callaway girls finished fifth with 58.5 points and won three events. Reece Pahl was a double-winner, claiming titles in the 100-meter dash (12.12 seconds) and the long jump (15-8¼), while Lacey Mathews-Honarmand finished first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 9-8½.
Also winning a district title was New Bloomfield’s Myah Briggs, who took first in the girls 300-meter hurdles in 48.88 seconds.
The top-four finishers in each event from the district meet advance to next Saturday’s Class 2 Sectional 2 meet, which will be held at South Shelby.
